Below Adam tells us more about himself and his new role with Rombourne along with some top tips.

Hi Adam! Tell us more about you.

I have recently finished my university course at UWE in Animal Management, achieving a 1st. My career dream would be to start my own veterinary company as it combines my passion for animals, people and business. Personal accomplishments include my qualifications, getting a job offer for excellent volunteer work, and achieving regional employee of the month at my very first job within 6 months of working there.

What is your role at Rombourne?

I am a new member of the receptionist team at St Brandon’s House. My role is to act as the receptionist for over 50 companies. This includes a variety of tasks however the main jobs include; taking calls, sorting incoming and outgoing post and managing our meeting rooms for our clients to use.

What’s a typical day like for you at Rombourne?

A typical day at Rombourne begins with a busy morning. Before most of our clients walk into the building, we check every room, ceiling to floor to make sure that everything is in tip top order. Afterwards, there is usually just enough time to make myself a cup of tea before the post arrives which needs to be sorted and delivered to each of our clients.

From this point on, there is no typical day. Each day varies so much from the last, and each brings with it new challenges to ensure we provide the best possible service for our clients. Some days the phone will be ringing all day from open till close, whereas other days are a bit quieter, giving us time to prepare offices for new clients or filing documents to ensure we are organised and ready to tackle whatever comes our way.

What is your favourite thing about working at Rombourne as a Receptionist Administrator?

My favourite part about working at Rombourne is the variety of work that I do every day. At Rombourne it’s true that no two days are ever the same and I enjoy being able to come to work and not know what the day will bring. I am also a massive people person and so I enjoy working closely with such a large amount of people and I love the little interactions I have with them on a daily basis.

What’s the most challenging aspect of your role and why?

Honestly, the most challenging aspect of my role so far has been remembering faces, names and the companies they work for! There are about 35 different companies working from St Brandons House and most companies have between 4-12 employees. As an estimate that’s over 200 people who work here, so remembering exactly who everyone is and what company they work for is definitely taking me some time. Whilst it is a certainly a challenge, it is also very rewarding getting to know each and every person because they are all super friendly and they have made working here an absolute delight.

What essentials do you take to work, and why?

Without a doubt, the only essential I need is a good, reliable pen. I will not go anywhere without one because I have no doubt that I will be asked about 30 times each day if I have a pen that someone can borrow! But in all seriousness, you never know when you might need to jot something down and having a dependable pen can save the day!

What do you enjoy doing when you are not at Rombourne?

When I’m not working at Rombourne I enjoy spending time with my friends, playing games or reading a good book. But more than anything else, I enjoy spending my time doing anything that is competitive. Whether it’s a game of darts, Mario Kart or monopoly, there is nothing I love more than a bit of friendly competition.

What would be your number one reception etiquette tip?

Be polite and be professional. The reception is the face of the company in many aspects and making a bad first impression will leave its mark.

Oh, and if you are going off to make yourself a hot drink, ask if anyone else on reception would like anything.
